100 Years of History Gone in One Hour
SELAH, WA (January 5, 2006) - It took a demolition crew only an hour to bring
down nearly 100 years of history on Wednesday, when the former building
of the Selah Covenant Church was leveled.
The congregation of 200 moved in June to its new building, which is less
than a mile from its former facility.
The owner of a Chinese restaurant across the street purchased the
property and plans on building a strip mall with seven retail spaces.
Being in Washington, one of the spaces is reserved for Starbucks, if the
company decides to locate there.
Part of the church had been built in 1910, although additions had been
added through the years. A fire destroyed an annex in 2001.
Secretary Shirley Price says some members of the congregation picked up
bricks to take home with them. "Some of them were a little bit sad," she
notes.
National Covenant Properties assisted with financing for construction of
the new building.
