AAMA Connections / Fellowship Dinner

Rev. Velda Love and Mark Olson did a wonderful job of handling the details of a truly memorable evening. The room was beautifully decorated and the food was delicious. This is the highlight of our time together and we had fellowship one with another -- hugging old friends and meeting new ones.

Mark Olson introduced the new provost of North Park University, Dr. Jones and the local church ministries will again have the opportunity to have the traveling choir visit their churches for worship this year.

Lisa Orris promoted "The Feast" and gave the details on receiving the ethnic scholarships available to all ethnic association members and the members of their churches.

John Weinrich introduced the principles and resources available through Veritas, the assessment workshop to help strengthen local church ministries which will be highlighted in the AAMA Pilot program.

Mary Miller invited participation in Youth Nexus, Pastors-in-Residence, Professors

We celebrated how God has moved among us as the officers of the AAMA, our members serving on boards and commissions, our superintendents, our members who work for the denomination, university and seminary, and our past AAMA presidents were introduced and prayed for. Past Henry Greenidge lead us in special prayer for our first president, Rev. Dr. Jerry Mosby who died in December reminding us to remember his wife and family during this season of transition.

President Glenn Plamberg brought words of greeting and shared how his vision for the church was beginning to unfold but there was much work still to be done.

Presidential nominee Gary Walter spoke about his deep friendship and admiration of those within our membership who were the first or pioneers to open the doors for those who have followed.

Those attending were also introduced to two of the receipents of the Dr. Willie B. Jemison Book Scholarship and members were reminded to send in their donations so these students would have the book assistance they need.

Rev. Valeyo Garrett lead us into a beautiful time of worship by sharing her gift of ministry in song. She was accompanied by musician Derrick Amos who created a beautiful spirit of worship for us throughout the evening. Valeyo set the table for a powerful time of prayer.

We ended our time together with prayer around the tables, praying for each other and the ministries God has given to us to lead. There was a snow storm outside but the spirit within Hamming Hall was warm and unifying as we spent time in worship together.

Rev. Dr. Jerry Mosby, 1st AAMA President

On Monday, November 26, there was a time of reflection, prayer and song and on Tuesday morning the sanctuary of FellowshipCovenant Church was filled to overflowing for the special home-going service celebrating the life of Dr. Jerry Mosby.  Fifty pastors representing 65 churches in the East Coast Conference wore their robes as they processed into the sanctuary during the Tuesday service, a number of AAMA representatives and leaders from the Covenant denomination were present and gave testimony to the impactful life of one of the AAMA pioneers.

Pastor Mosby served as the first president of the AAMA and his vision to formalize as an association helped to make the journey of new African American pastors into a predominately white denomination a smoother process.  The AAMA sent flowers, and Pastor Catherine Gilliard, president of the AAMA presented a resolution on behalf of the association and read a letter  of tribute acknowledging the many ways his leadership has shaped the AAMA.

The appearance of many of the AAMA members showed tribute to our gratitude of pioneers. Those in attendance include Rev. Dr. Don Davenport, who followed Rev. Mosby as President of the AAMA; Rev. Dr. Henry Greenidge, who followed Davenport as president of the AAMA; Rev. Conway Boyce, current Vice President of the AAMA, Rev. Harold Spooner, current treasurer of the AAMA, Rev. Dr.  D. Darrell Griffin; chair of the ECC Executive Board; Rev. Jerome Nelson, Superintendent Central Conference; Rev. Dr. Robert Owens, Superintendent Southeast Conference; Sam Bryan, chaplain; and many other ECC executives. To view photos, click here.
