2007 ACCW Awards Reception

ACCW 10th Anniversary Celebration

President Glenn Palmberg opened our time together bringing  greetings as he shared his support of women in pastoral ministries. Dr. Mimi Haddad, president of Christians For Biblical Equality, brought greetings on behalf of their organization, joining in our celebration of 10 years of ministry on behalf of clergy women.

Our keynote speakers were our past presidents, Rev. Nancy Gordon and Rev. Jolene Bergstrom Carlson. They each shared the climate of the denomination and the association during their time as president including the stories of challenges and victories faced and experienced during their terms in office. It was an exciting time of fellowship and of honoring women who have served in leadership of this association.

A special highlight of the reception was the awarding of the seven beautifully handmade clergy stoles that were donated by Covenant women to our association to raise funds for the ACCW Awards Program. The silent auction of these clergy stoles began at the ACCW business meeting on Monday and the stoles were awarded at the end of the reception.

2007 Awards Reception

The ACCW Reception was held in Portland, Oregon during the ECC Annual Meeting to honor our 2007 Award Recipients. The first recipient of the ACCW Anderson / Nordlund Missionary Scholarship is Karen Groot, a full-time Covenant missionary in Thailand. The scholarship was created to honor the first female Covenant martyrs Martha Anderson and Esther Nordlund. The scholarship provides for continual training/education of a full time female missionary called by the church, on assignment through the World Mission Department of the ECC and supported by a local Covenant church.

The first recipient of the ACCW Priscilla Pastorate Grant is Rev. Karen Brewer. Karen is the pastor of Atonement Church in Chicago, Illinois. The Priscilla Pastorate grant was created to honor a full time female pastor (senior, co-pastor, associate, youth or children) serving a Covenant church who is in good standing in the Covenant ministerium.

The first recipient of the ACCW Mordecai Award for Outstanding Partnership is Rev. Herbert Freedholm. This award was created to recognize the work of men among us who have served as partners to women in ministry. To be eligible for this award, you must be a nominated male  minister in an Evangelical Covenant Church setting (administrators, teachers, pastors, missionaries, etc) who has demonstrated active support of women in ministry, through providing advocacy, resources, support and dialogue on behalf of all women in ministry.

We congratulate all of our recipients and thank those who nominated them for these awards.
