What is the Annual Meeting?

The Annual Meeting is the highest legislative body of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), made up of representatives from Covenant churches throughout the United States and Canada. Delegates gather together for worship and fellowship, and to ordain ministers, consecrate missionaries, elect leaders, review finances, adopt a budget, and address the business of the church.

What does it mean to be a delegate?

Delegates are credentialed representatives from member Covenant churches. Delegates vote on the policies and procedure presented to the Annual Meeting. Delegates receive a comprehensive manual that includes reports, statistics, ballot information, etc. They are also provided premium seating during the business sessions, and are given the privilege of speaking during the meeting and voicing their position on matters.

Can I attend if I am not a delegate?

Yes. General conferees, retired Covenant pastors, missionaries, North Park Theological Seminary (NPTS), and Centro de Hispano de Estudios Teológicos (CHET) students, may attend the Annual Meeting without officially representing a local church or institution. General conferees are provided with handouts at the Annual Meeting, as well as designated seating; however, they are not allowed to voice their opinions, ask questions, or vote. Everyone is welcome to participate in the worship sessions.

What are the different attendee designations?

Delegate | Delegates are credentialed representatives from member Covenant churches or a conference office. Delegates vote on the policies and procedures presented to the Annual Meeting. Delegates receive a comprehensive manual that includes reports, statistics, ballot information, and more. They are provided premium seating during the business sessions, and are given the privilege of speaking during the meeting and voicing their position on matters.

General Conferee | General conferees are Covenanters wishing to attend the Annual Meeting without officially representing a local church or institution. General conferees are provided with handouts at the Annual Meeting, as well as designated seating. During business sessions, they are not allowed to voice their opinions, ask questions, or vote. General conferees are encouraged to participate in evening worship sessions.

Resource Person | A resource person is invited to participate in the Annual Meeting for a specified purpose or agenda item or items by the action of the body. During business sessions, resource persons may address the body, answer questions, or make suggestions and comments in relation to the specified purpose or agenda item or items. Resource persons do not have a vote, cannot make motions, and may be excused by the body at any time.
