Justice and the Language of Worship

Brian McLaren is doing some traveling and speaking on his new book: Everything Must Change. According to Covenant News Service, rather than just book signing, McLaren hosts “training and worship events.” Although McLaren speaks several times, the worship times incorporate new music and the creative use of art in liturgy. “A key element to mobilizing people in our churches is liturgy,” he explains.

The newswire article is about Brian and his book. It’s not a book/article about worship, per say, but I thought we might talk about the connection between worship and justice that Brian has stated.

It seems God is working in our churches these days—helping us develop local mission and focus that includes the kind of work Jesus and his followers did. Is this the case with your local church? If so… how does your work in the world affect your language of worship (use of liturgy)? And... How does your language of worship affect your work in the world?

Some of our churches were started on the premise of ‘missional’, and 'mission' has been a leading influence in the language of worship. It would be nice to hear your insights and experience, as well.

God’s best this weekend,
Katie Martinez
