Interested in Planting?
Interested in Being A Church Planter?
- Yes, and I am already credentialed by the Covenant. Thanks for your interest! Your current position in the Covenant means you are already an important part of church planting, since it is a ministry we can only do because of the support of people and churches like you. Here are ways to begin exploring whether that interest in church planting is a nudge from the Holy Spirit or just from too much coffee!
1. Do a simple self-assessment. Does it feel basically “in the ball park”? 2. Read in the field. 3. Visit on-site with a new church. 4. Have coffee with a Covenant church planter.
If everything still points to serious exploration, set up an appointment with your conference director of church planting ( Our-Church-Planting-Team.pdf). They’ll visit with you in more depth.
If it makes sense both to you and the conference director, then being invited to an assessment center would be next.
If you are recommended for church planting by the assessment center, you then become eligible to be called to a church planting project. - Yes, and I am just getting to know the Covenant.
Thanks for your interest! Many outstanding church planters have found a real home in the Covenant. Our church planters typically have a Master of Divinity degree with a minimum of three to five years of full-time ministry experience. An appreciation for ecclesiastical groups that highly value collegiality and connection is another valuable background because it is so important to our ethos. If you are early in the nudge to explore church planting, do the following:

All church planters new to the Covenant are required to become credentialed by the Covenant. This entails, in part, Covenant External Orientation, a combination of seven seminars and additional life experiences, accomplished over three to five years, to help you feel at home.
