African Children's Choir to Highlight Seattle Conference

SEATTLE, WA (October 9, 2007) - First Covenant Church will host the African Children's Choir at 7:30 p.m. November 9 to kickoff a weekend workshop on urban ministry.

The choral group of 26 children, ranging in age from seven to 12, represents three countries in East Africa; Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda. The humanitarian relief organization, Music for Life Institute sponsors the choir, which raises awareness about condition of needs of impoverished children in Africa and raised funds to support schools.

Many choir members are themselves orphans, and after spending a year in the choir, return home to attend schools run by the Music for Life Institute. In April, the choir performed as part of American Idol: Idol Gives Back, singing “You Raise Me Up” with Josh Groban. They also performed on the finale of American Idol

A freewill offering will be taken at the concert.

Peter Sjoblom of CURE (Chicago Urban Reconciliation Enterprise) will lead a workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on November 10. On Sunday, November 11, Sjoblom will also give a presentation to the adult Christian formation hour at 9:30 a.m. and preach during worship at 11 a.m.
