North Park Names New Head Football Coach

CHICAGO (January 9, 2001) - Robin Cooper has accepted the position of head football coach at North Park University.

Cooper served as head football coach the past two seasons at College of DuPage. Cooper started the football program at DuPage and posted a record of 13-8 in his two seasons. Prior to coaching at DuPage, Cooper served as head football coach at the University of Evansville from 1991 to 1998, leading the Aces to a record of 36-33 during that time.

He was an assistant coach at Western Illinois University from 1987 to 1991. While there, the Leathernecks won the Gateway Conference and were selected for the NCAA Division IAA Playoffs in 1988. Cooper also started the football program at MacMurray College in 1984, leading the Highlanders to a 20-8 mark over three seasons.

Before moving to the college level, Cooper guided Springfield Griffin High School to a mark of 46-9, including undefeated regular seasons in 1980, 1982, 1983 and 1984. Cooper coached baseball as well as football at Springfield Griffin, posting a record of 89-22.

A graduate of Bloomington High School, Cooper earned a Bachelor of Arts from Illinois Wesleyan University and a Master of Science in Physical Education, Health and Recreation from Illinois State University. He was a two-sport athlete at Illinois Wesleyan, playing both baseball and football for the Titans from 1971-1975.

Cooper inherits a North Park University program that finished 3-7 in 2000, but is on the cusp of breaking through in the always tough College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Vikings finished the 2000 campaign seventh in the CCIW, with a 1-6 record in conference play.

North Park University is located on Chicago's north side and enrolls 2,100 students from around the world. North Park competes athletically in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, the most competitive small college conference in the nation.
