Assisted Living Facility Under Way in Portland
PORTLAND, OR (January 19, 2001) - Construction for an assisted living facility co-sponsored by Irvington Covenant Church and Covenant Retirement Communities (CRC) is under way, project administrators report.
Construction is scheduled for completion in October, according to Rebecca Neth Townsend, CRC vice president of strategic development. Pastor Henry Greenidge and CRC had hoped to begin construction last fall, but the project was delayed by the city. Irvington Village will provide affordable assisted living for seniors and disabled residents of the community, something that has
not been available in the past.
"The most exciting part of this is that it is an expansion of a vision that Irvington Covenant had," Neth Townsend said. "CRC has just been able to come alongside and make it happen, and we're overjoyed to be part of it. The cooperation between CRC and Irvington Covenant has created a wonderful model for other projects in the future.
"The difficult thing about a project like this is that it takes a lot of commitment from CRC that a local church can't make happen," Neth Townsend continued. "On the other hand, for a church that has a vision for this kind of ministry - if they catch a vision for what Christ has for them - CRC can provide resources so a church isn't starting from scratch. That's exciting for both CRC and the Evangelical Covenant Church."
