Cornelious to Lead Specialized Mission Effort

CHICAGO, IL (February 1, 2001) - An exciting new program connecting local Evangelical Covenant churches and conferences with World Mission ministries is taking shape under the leadership of Rose Cornelious, who will be working for the Department of World Mission in church relations.

Rose Cornelious Cornelious, previously a mission facilitator for the Southeast Conference, will begin her new position February 1, according to David Stockamp, coordinator of church relations for World Mission. She will continue some of her responsibilities on networking with Covenant churches and ministries in Haiti through contacts with Haitian pastor Martinez Jovin.

The mother of four, Cornelious is a member of Christian Evangelical Fellowship in Atlanta, where she will continue to make her home and office.

"Rose has in-depth experience, having visited eight or nine countries as a short-term missionary," said Stockamp. She will work closely with conference offices, local church staff members and local church mission committees, paying special attention to individual needs and desires and customizing opportunities for mission experiences. "We believe we are tapping an entirely new area of ministry expression," Stockamp said.

"She will offer a real spark to . . . churches in the Covenant as they pursue ministry beyond the local context," he continued. "What is so contagious about her is her heart, soul and passion to link with other people."

Cornelious recently visited one small church with some 30 members, exploring mission opportunities and seeking to inspire and excite individuals to become actively engaged. The church responded by receiving an offering of $400 to aid World Mission ministries.

She recently returned from Haiti where she accompanied Robert Owens, Richard Berry and Joshua Sands as they discussed ways for Covenant African-American churches to foster relationships with the Haitian church. A larger group of African-American pastors is scheduled to make a similar visit in June.

"Rose is a godly woman," Stockamp said. "She is passionate about mission and I am excited to have her part of our team."
