Windsor Park Expanding Health Care Center
CAROL STREAM, IL (July 16, 2001) - Work is well under way on a $6 million addition to Windsor Park Manor's Torrey M. Johnson Health Care Center, following recent groundbreaking ceremonies.
The continuing care retirement community's skilled nursing and assisted living residence will add a two-story 23,505-square-foot building with 20 skilled nursing beds and a 16-bed memory support assisted living residence.
The center's namesake, Torrey M. Johnson, was joined by his daughter, Ruth Johnson, as he gave the invocation during the groundbreaking ceremony. The founder of Windsor Park, Johnson also founded Youth for Christ International. He was senior pastor at Bibletown Community Church, Boca Raton, Florida, for 25 years and is currently a resident of Wheaton, Illinois.
More than 300 people, including state Rep. Randall Hultgren, Carol Stream Mayor Ross Ferraro, Carol Stream Trustees Pamela Fenner and Skip Stubbs, Windsor Park residents and officials from Covenant Retirement Communities looked on as the first shovel of earth was turned on the project.
The 20-bed first floor addition to the skilled nursing center will increase the campus' skilled nursing capacity to 80 beds. The center provides 24-hour short-term, long-term and rehabilitative care to Windsor Park Manor residents.
The second floor of the new building will similarly expand the services in the existing building. It will also add a new level of care to the campus. The 16-bed assisted living residence will provide a supportive lifestyle for those with Alzheimer's and other memory limitations. Completion is anticipated in 2002.
Home to almost 500 retirees, Windsor Park Manor is a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community administered by Chicago-based Covenant Retirement Communities on behalf of the Board of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
