Irvington Village to Open January 20
PORTLAND, OR (January 11, 2002) - Irvington Village, a 104-united assisted living center co-sponsored by Covenant Retirement Communities (CRC) and Irvington Covenant Church in Portland, welcomed its first residents in preparation for a grand opening celebration January 20.
The facility, made possible by the first joint partnership between an individual Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) congregation and CRC, will help respond to a need for affordable assisted living in Northeast Portland. Seventy percent of its studio and one-bedroom apartments are available to Medicaid recipients.
Construction of the five-story facility began last January after CRC helped Irvington Village acquire a parcel of land adjacent to Irvington Covenant. The $11.5 million project will help the church in larger outreach attempts into the community - a multipurpose room, for example, will be made available for the use of community groups.
There are 28 one-bedroom apartments and 76 studio apartments. A library, central meeting place and interior courtyard are part of the campus.
Irvington Village's grand opening, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. January 20, will attract many area and Covenant dignitaries. ECC President Glenn R. Palmberg will speak at the grand opening and representatives from CRC will attend. Oregon State Senators Gordon Smith and Ron Wyden and
Portland Mayor Vera Katz are among those who have been invited to the event.
