Vista (CA) Church to Celebrate 10th Birthday
VISTA, CA (January 18, 2002) - Oak Hills Covenant Church, located in the greater San Diego area, will celebrate its 10th birthday in late February. Area residents and friends of the church are invited to participate in the celebration, according to pastor Kreig Gammelgard.
The public is welcome to any or all of the three "10th Birthday Party" events. On February 22, the church will host a special dinner-dance complete with birthday cake and live music. On February 24, Gary Walter, executive minister of the Department of Church Growth and Evangelism of the Evangelical Covenant Church, will speak at the 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. services. A puppet show and other activities are scheduled as well.
Oak Hills Church will co-host the Vista Chamber of Commerce's February 27 Sundowner event, Gammelgard said. The church, which has an average worship attendance of 300, has been active in the local community in recent years, hosting a local golf tournament that benefits an area homeless shelter and youth projects, as well involvement with Alpine Conference Center in southern California.
Oak Hills Church launched its ministry in 1992 in Vista, a North county suburb of San Diego.
"Our young congregation gathered during the early years in a lecture hall at Rancho Buena Vista High School," recounted Gammelgard, "while in recent years we've leased space in the Albertson's/Sav-On shopping center."
Oak Hills has an extensive youth ministry, including TGIF, a Friday afternoon outreach to grade-school children patterned after a popular restaurant with that name. The church regularly serves meals at the primary homeless shelter in Vista and has recently begun a ministry to single mothers at the church, located at 1611 S. Melrose Drive, Suite G, Vista, California.
