North Park Men Edge Millikin for Win
DECATUR, IL (February 3, 2002) - Sophomore guard Javier Sanchez scored 19 points and added eight rebounds and four assists as North Park University (NPU) edged Millikin University 91-87 Saturday in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) game played in Decatur.
Sanchez and freshman Lamar Townsend both had their first starts this season for coach Rees Johnson's team, which moved to 9-9 overall, 4-3 in CCIW play. The lineup change paid off - the two combined for 9-of-12 field goal shooting - and the Vikings had four players in double figures to offset 26 points by Millikin's Charles Williams.
Sneed Deaderick and Tyrone Hueston had 16 points each and Byron Pullen and Jason Collins added 12 and 11 points respectively for NPU, which hosts Augustana College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Deaderick led the Vikings with eight assists as NPU played without top scorer Maurice Vaughn.
In women's action, North Park fell to North Central 51-42 in Chicago. Andrea Mendyk led the Vikings with 12 points.
