Mister Rogers Associate Producer to Lecture at North Park

CHICAGO, IL (February 19, 2002) - Hedda Sharapan, associate producer of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood since 1968, will speak February 26 in a free lecture at Anderson Chapel on the campus of North Park University (NPU).

Sharapan will speak on "Loving Your Neighbor as Yourself" in the 6:30 p.m. lecture. Clips from Fred Rogers' show will also be incorporated into the lecture, which is part of the university's year-long discussion on the North Park Dialogue theme question, "Who is My Neighbor?"

After serving as assistant director for Mister Rogers' Neighborhood for the 1966-67 seasons, Sharapan became assistant producer the following year and served in that role until Rogers' recent retirement. She is editor of "Around the Neighborhood," a newsletter for the Mister Rogers' Neighborhood Child Care Partnership, which encourages the use of the television program in child care settings. And she has co-authored numerous books and pamphlets with Rogers on subjects ranging from mental illness to cancer. She has a master's degree in child development from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

For more information on the Sharapan lecture, call NPU at 773-244-5553.
