U.S. Women's Team Fails to Find Gold

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT (February 22, 2002) - Canada ended the U.S. women's hockey team domination in a 3-2 championship game upset Thursday, ending the 2002 Winter Olympic gold medal dreams of Krissy Wendell of Redeemer Covenant Church in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

Wendell was held scoreless by Canada, which took a 3-1 lead and held on for its first win over the U.S. team since last April in the International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship. The U.S. team had beaten Canada eight straight times since then and had won 35 straight contests overall before Thursday.

This fall, Wendell is expected to play women's hockey at the University of Minnesota.
