Missouri Church to Occupy New Building
LEE'S SUMMIT, MO (February 25, 2002) - Deerbrook Covenant Church, a congregation founded in 1995, is moving into a new building next month.
The first service in the new building is scheduled for March 3, according to church staff. A dedication for the 18,000-square-foot building will commence March 17 and a grand opening will take place March 24.
Deerbrook Covenant is averaging approximately 550 in worship attendance, nearly 200 more than a year ago. The congregation was sponsored by Hillcrest Covenant Church in Prairie Village, Kansas. Senior pastor Gary Schmitz was the original pastor at the church, which is located in a suburb of 80,000 located about 25 minutes from Kansas City. Associate pastor Wes
Gibson stated that a rapidly growing youth program has encouraged the congregation. The church's youth ministry should benefit from the new building, which is across the street from a new high school in town.
Worship has been enhanced by the work of Kirt Mosier, a local high school orchestra teacher. He has received Missouri State Orchestra Teacher of the Year honors in recent years.
