Serving Community Theme of NW Conclave
BEMIDJI, MN (February 26, 2002) - More than 100 people participated at the North Conclave, a Northwest Conference-sponsored educational event hosted by the Evangelical Covenant Church of Bemidji last Saturday.
The event, focused on finding hope in serving community included seminars by Northwest Conference Supt. Paul H. Erickson and David Kersten, executive minister of the Department of the Ordered Ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
Erickson headed a workshop on congregational governance in the denomination. Kersten and retired pastor Marv Eppard led a seminar on how pastors can better team up with laity for mutual ministry in their congregations. Millie Lungren of the Covenant Resource Center in Chicago
also was available to discuss some of the newest resources available for denominational entities.
Jon Kramka, director of City Moves in the Northwest Conference, led a workshop on community ministry. Wendy Sorvik, Northwest Conference director of congregational services, discussed how to make church a safer place for children.
Barry Lane, director of training and consulting services at Anoka/Ramsey Community College, led seminars on leadership and teaching in the church and secular setting. Lloyd Jacobson, director of New Friends Ministries, directed a seminar on how to retain church visitors. Gary and Pauline Carlson, Northwest Conference missionaries in residence, were seminar leaders on mission works. Pastor Ted Nordlund of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Anoka led a seminar on spiritual disciplines.
