Van Ministry Reaches Kids and 'Adopted' Member Families
JAMESTOWN, NY (April 5, 2002) - A van ministry to neighborhood youth operated
by First Covenant Church has had a positive impact not only on one of
the young people served by the program, but on adults in the
congregation as well.
For the past two and one-half years, a van has picked up youth in the
neighborhood surrounding the city-based church, an area Associate Pastor
Dan Soderberg describes as socially and ethnically diverse.
Young people attend both Sunday school and the morning worship service,
sitting with "adopted" families who return the young people to their
homes following the conclusion of activities.
"Some of the kids have really grown in their faith," Soderberg says.
"One boy recently made a card for the associate pastor saying 'church is
the best place in the world.' Another girl has shared a brief testimony
in church. Besides ministering to the kids, it is also ministering to
the 'adopting' families," Soderberg observes.
For more information on the van program or other ministries, contact
Soderberg or Marilyn Johnson, director of children's ministries, at
