Philanthropy Is Focus of Third Axelson Symposium
CHICAGO, IL (April 15, 2002) - The Axelson Center for Nonprofit Management at
North Park University will co-host its third annual symposium May 15, with
Phil Marineau, president and CEO of Levi Strauss & Company, as the keynote
speaker.
The symposium is entitled, "Philanthropy's New Agenda: New Money, New
Donors, New Challenges, New Opportunities-What does it all Mean?" The
Alford Group Inc. of Chicago is the other co-host for the all-day event.
North Park's Axelson Center was funded in honor of the late Nils G.
Axelson, former president of Covenant Ministries of Benevolence whose
provided leadership to that organization for 40 years.
Marineau previously served as president and CEO of Pepsi-Cola North
America. He was also president of Dean Foods and Quaker Oats.
National non-profit spokespersons will speak during plenary sessions on the
changing face of philanthropy, which has been affected both by
technological advances such as the Internet and by national events such as
the terrorist attacks of September 11. The plenary sessions include:
- What is New About Philanthropy's New Agenda?
- Philanthropy in the Wake of a National Crisis: What Have We Learned?
-
- How the Internet is Changing Philanthropy and Civic Life.
- New Philanthropists: New Strategies of Giving.
Through the Axelson Center, the first annual Alford-Axelson Award for
Nonprofit Managerial Excellence will be awarded during the symposium. The
award will go to a nonprofit organization demonstrating excellence in its
work during the past year. The award is sponsored by Bank One,
headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, and includes a monetary gift.
