Services Set for Retired Pastor David W. Sandquist
CHICAGO, IL (April 18, 2002) - A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. April 28
at Covenant Home of Chicago for retired Covenant pastor David W. Sandquist,
who died last Sunday night at Covenant Home.
The 76-year-old Sandquist served in a variety of ministries for nearly four
decades. Born August 15, 1925, in Ashtabula, Ohio, Sandquist attended North
Park Junior College in Chicago and eventually finished his undergraduate
education at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois.
Sandquist served as a counselor for two years at the Children's Home of
Princeton, Illinois, before heading to North Park Theological Seminary in
Chicago in 1955. After serving pastoral internships in Rutland, Vermont,
and Ashtabula and working one year as a youth pastor for a
local church, he finished his seminary education in 1961 and became an
ordained Covenant pastor in 1964.
After seminary, Sandquist was pastor of Maple Grove Covenant Church in
Tipler, Wisconsin, for two years and concurrently served at Stambaugh
Covenant Church in nearby Stambaugh, Michigan. He also directed the
Covenant Point Bible Camp in Iron River, Michigan.
From 1963-1966, Sandquist served as associate pastor at Bethesda Covenant
Church in Rockford, Illinois. He was senior pastor at Covenant
Congregational Church in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, from 1966-1976 before
heading to Community Covenant Church in Lake Worth, Florida, from
1976-1983.
Sandquist was chaplain for Covenant Village of Cromwell in Cromwell,
Connecticut, from 1983-1985, and finished his full-time ministry at Mission
Covenant Church in Foster City, Michigan, from 1985-1992. He was ill for
much of the remainder of his life and lived at Covenant Home of
Chicago during his final years.
