North Park Vikings Track Team Places Fifth in Competition
ROCK ISLAND, IL (April 19, 2002) - Lacretia Carroll won the 800 meter run and
finished second in two other events as North Park University (NPU) placed
fifth in the women's track and field division of the Augustana Viking
Olympics last Saturday.
Carroll won the 800 in a time of 2 minutes, 21.33 seconds, placed second in
the 200 meter event in 27.74 seconds and was second in the triple jump with
a leap of 36 feet, 8 1/4 inches. She also was fourth in the 100 in a time
of 13.04 seconds. Teammates Lucia Abel (second in the long jump) and
Jennifer Delcamp (third in the 100 meter hurdles) also contributed to NPU's
point total of 31.
The men's track and field team also fared well, placing fourth with 42
points. Kerry Herdegen leaped 6-9 1/2 to win the high jump and was second
in the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, 5 inches. Craig Hancock won the
400 meter hurdles in 54.55 seconds and was third in the 200 with a clocking
of 22.71 seconds. Kurt Rowells was third in the
discus and Randle Williams placed fourth in the 100 for the Vikings, who
host their own invitational meet April 27.
Last month, NPU gave a strong showing at the Emory University Classic in
Atlanta, placing third as Hancock won the 400 hurdles and Guillermo Mejia
won the hammer toss. The 400 meter relay team placed second for the men. In
the women's meet Sarah Baker was fourth in the discus toss.
