North Park Men Place Fifth in Track and Field Events
KENOSHA, WI (May 6, 2002) - Senior Craig Hancock of Arvada, Colorado, won two
events at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) men's
track and field meet at Carthage College Saturday, helping North Park
University place fifth overall of eight squads.
Hancock was first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.38 seconds and he
took the 400-meter hurdles event in 54.06. He also placed eighth in the
long jump as teammates Jeremy Allen-Dixon and Giles Travis finished fourth
and fifth respectively. Travis also placed third in the triple jump.
The other men's winner for North Park was Kerry Herdegen, who won the high
jump with a leap of 6 feet, 7.5 inches. He was also seventh in the triple
jump. Randel Williams placed third in the 100 and eighth in the 200. The
Vikings placed third in the 400-meter relay.
In the throwing events, Guillermo Mejia was third in the shot put with a
toss of 48-11.5 and added a third-place finish in the hammer throw (139-5).
Jerry Kosiba placed eighth in the decathlon with 5,284 points for 10
events.
The women's team placed eighth of eight teams in the CCIW track and field
meet as Lacretia Carroll of Peoria, Illinois, set a meet record in winning
the triple jump. Her leap of 38 feet, 6.25 inches shattered the 13-year-old
record by North Park's Janice Swanson (37-6) in 1989. Carroll also placed
sixth in the 400.
Sarah Baker was third in the hammer (106-11) and sixth in the discus
(119-3) while Lucia Abel placed seventh in the long jump with a leap of
16-3).
