Services Held for Robert V. Thonander
WILMETTE, IL (May 17, 2002) - Funeral services were held at Winnetka Covenant
Church yesterday for longtime attorney Robert V. Thonander of Evanston, a
graduate of North Park University (then College) and the school's
distinguished alumni honoree in 1974.
The 85-year-old Thonander died May 8 at the McGaw Center of the
Presbyterian Homes in Evanston, where he had lived since 1995. He was a
partner and chief counsel to Arthur Stedry Hansen Consulting Actuaries for
40 years and worked for 15 years at Winnetka-based D.L. Padgitt and
Associates before retiring.
Thonander had previously served as chairman of North Park's board of
directors and had been an active member at North Park Covenant Church in
Chicago before attending Winnetka Covenant. He was also on the
denomination's Board of Pensions in the late 1970s and early 80s.
Born in Chicago, Thonander received his associate's degree from North Park
and later earned bachelor and law degrees from Northwestern University in
Evanston. He served as an Army major during World War II and the Korean
War. A noted fundraiser for North Park, Thonander combined a skilled
business sense with a fun-loving spirit. He was an avid tennis player and
golfer and played several musical instruments.
Thonander is survived by his wife of 58 years, Harriet-Ann, and a daughter,
Pam.
