Clairemont Victorious in Covenant Cup Volleyball
SANTA BARBARA, CA (May 23, 2002) - Clairemont Covenant Church of San Diego was
the big winner at the eight-team Covenant Cup Volleyball Tournament hosted
by Montecito Covenant Church last Saturday.
More than 100 teens and adults played in the 15th annual tourney. Teams
included the host church, Ocean Hills Covenant in Santa Barbara, Clairemont
Covenant and a number of congregations from all over California. Ocean
Hills Covenant youth pastor Matt Mills was the guest speaker.
Clairemont Covenant took the six-person tournament, beating Ocean Hills in
the finals. The first-place team members were Ashley Gentry, Julie Gregg,
Chris Gentry, Kevin Davis, Jesse Gay and Karl Engstrom. Davis and Chris
Wehsener won the two-player open division. In the two-player co-ed
division, Davis and Ashley Gentry defeated youth group members Gregg and
Chris Gentry. Ashley and Chris are cousins.
Church youth groups stayed at Westmont College, according to Montecito
