Memorial Service Saturday for Ruth C. Wickman Wang

HOUSTON, TX (May 30, 2002) - A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Winford Funeral Home in Houston for retired Covenant missionary Ruth C. Wickman Wang, who died May 25 in Houston of congestive heart failure at age 82.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, December 19, 1919, Wickman Wang attended First Covenant Church in Minneapolis and received nursing training at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago in 1948. She graduated from North Park Junior College two years later and was commissioned as a medical missionary at the Evangelical Covenant Church Annual Meeting in Minneapolis in 1953.

She left shortly thereafter to work in nursing and Bible teaching in Taiwan, primarily in Ping Tung. She served as a nurse until 1960 when she married Jonathan Wang and left the field officially in 1961. The couple adopted Wang's nephews, Jeremy and Jason, from China and raised and educated them in the U.S. They moved to Houston approximately 20 years ago.

Wickman Wang is survived by husband, Jonathan, and sons Jeremy and Jason and their families. She is also survived by her brother, Marden, and sister Marian, along with her sisters-in-law Melva, Lillian and Olga and many nephews and nieces.
