White Stone Team Plans Second Trip to Angola
DUBLIN, CA (June 10, 2002) - White Stone Church, a Covenant congregation located
in the East Bay of Northern California, will send 15 members to Angola in
July for its second mission trip to an orphanage in Luanda, Angola.
White Stone heads to Angola July 10 through 25 to continue restoration
efforts for the Associasao de Apoio a Crianca Abandonada (Aid Association
For Abandoned Children) Orphanage. Aid for the project will be supplemented
by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Angola's capital city of Luanda as
well as the Evangelical Christian Church in Cabinda
Province.
With Angola's social services strained by 27 years of civil war, for many
of this country's children their only shelter is poorly funded orphanages.
The church will continue this special ministry this summer, although the
mission will also include a medical aid component led by Dr. James Lowder,
a White Stone member.
In 2001, 12 East Bay residents spent nine days in Luanda as part of White
Stone's outreach, receiving financial and logistical support from Chevron.
A member of the church, Evan Simmons, has worked for Chevron in Angola and
solicited the support of the internationally known company. Chevron is
supporting this year's mission trip as well.
Thanks to support both from individual families and Tri-Valley businesses,
the mission team has already shipped 248 boxes of donations to Angola for
distribution by the team upon their arrival.
In order to raise funds, White Stone Church held its second annual Silent
and Live Auction fund-raiser June 8 to support the organization's ongoing
mission work with orphanages and the local church in Angola.
