Seminary Student Joins in Habitat for Humanity Project
DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA (June 23, 2002) - North Park Theological Seminary (NPTS)
student James Amadon was part of the Habitat for Humanity's Jimmy Carter
Work Project 2002 earlier this month, along with 45 others.
Amadon, who recently finished his first year at NPTS, is a member at
North
Park Covenant Church in Chicago. He left May 28 for South Africa, taking
part in a four-day pre-build tour in the Johannesburg area with the
National Council of Churches. Part of that tour involved the Jimmy
Carter
Work Project 2002, which included completing construction of 100 houses
in
South Africa. Amadon was working in one of the houses Carter and wife
Rosalynn supervised. Amadon returned June 9.
The trip was funded by a fellowship from the Fund for Theological
Education
(FTE). Amadon received a FTE scholarship last summer, along with 40
other
seminary students (seven of them traveled to South Africa). FTE is based
in
Atlanta and offers several fellowship programs and initiatives to
encourage
diversity and excellence in the churches
and seminaries of North America. Part of FTE funding must be used for
some
ministry project, usually the summer following one's first year of
school,
to enhance the seminary experience.
