New Wixom (MI) Church Prepares for First Service
WIXOM, MI (July 24, 2002) - Christ Covenant Church, a church plant assisted by
Faith Covenant Church in Farmington Hills, Michigan, is preparing for a
"launch" service September 22 as the final phase of church planting
development.
Pastor Nathan Pawl says the church has averaged 100 in morning worship
during its most recent stage of development. The congregation meets at a
local school in Wixom, a northwest suburb of Detroit. The church had 140 in
attendance at its first preview service on January 13 and has generated
consistent numbers ever since, thanks to nearby Faith
Covenant.
Pawl served four years as pastor at Harbert Community Church, a Covenant
church in Harbert, Michigan. Conference and denominational representatives
asked if Pawl would be interested in planting a church. A core group of
more than 60 people helped with the
beginning stages of the church plant. Pawl says he appreciates the many
prayers that have been offered on behalf of the new church plant effort. He
believes that has had an impact on the process of growth thus far.
"Probably the biggest thing that has been surprising is the fact that we
already have a multi-staff format (with Luke Swanson and Heather Munkmeyer
as associate pastors)," said Pawl. "We've been blessed with a good core
group and a couple of churches have encouraged us and helped us
financially. Faith Covenant Church has bent over backwards for us - they
sent many families and some key leaders. And the pastor, Ken Larson, has
been really helpful. His first church was a church plant and he's given
some great advice about being a pastor. And Larry Sherman (associate
superintendent for the Great Lakes Conference) has been my coach and has
absolutely been invaluable."
