Rick Fisk New Head of Covenant Retirement Communities

CHICAGO, IL (July 31, 2002) - Rick Fisk has been named to replace David Dwight as president of Covenant Retirement Communities (CRC), it was announced today.

Fisk currently serves as vice president of CRC's eastern region, overseeing nine of the 15 CRC retirement communities in North America. Earlier this year, Dwight was selected to replace the retiring Paul Peterson as president of Covenant Ministries of Benevolence of the Evangelical Covenant Church, of which CRC is a part.

Rick Fisk Fisk's selection concludes an extensive search process that considered candidates both from within and outside the CRC organization, Dwight said. "Rick comes with a wealth of experience in business and management, " Dwight said, praising Fisk's work in the eastern region over the past five years. Fisk moved into the regional position in 1997 to replace Dwight when he took over leadership of CRC.

"Rick also is a committed Christian who comes with a strong sense of mission and sees CRC as his calling, Dwight added.

The new president has considerable experience in nonprofit management settings, including vice president of Presbyterian Homes of Minnesota and executive director of its foundation; president of Children's HeartLink, International, where he earlier served as its director of development; director of development for the Minneapolis Red Cross, and director of major gifts for Crown College.

He also has private sector business experience, having served at one time as vice president and general manager of the family's Fisk Construction company. He is an ordained minister and has served as an adjunct professor and guest lecturer.

He received his undergraduate degree from Nyack College in Nyack, New York; earned a Master of Arts degree from Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio; and is pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree at North Park University in Chicago. He and his wife, Barbara, reside in Mount Prospect, Illinois, and are members of DeerGrove Covenant Church in Palatine.

As president of CRC, he will oversee 15 campuses serving more than 5,000 residents and employing more than 3,000 individuals, managing an annual budget in excess of $160 million and assets valued at more than $550 million.

"When I came five years ago, I definitely felt a calling to CRC," Fisk said. "I look forward to continuing that call and the opportunity to serve in an even larger capacity."

Fisk views the Covenant retirement communities as ministry opportunities and not just business enterprises. "There are two things that make us unique," he observed. "We are in a position to help what some call 'senior orphans' - people who have the financial means, but have no one to surround them and to help them. But, perhaps more important, we have the ability to offer benevolence to Covenanters - retired pastors and missionaries and any of our Covenant members. We can make a place for them."

Fisk will officially assume his new duties September 1, the same time that Dwight will officially move into his new role. A search process will soon begin to find a replacement for Fisk in the eastern region.
