Retired Minnehaha Coach Named Coach of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 20, 2002) - Longtime Minnehaha Academy soccer coach Guido Kauls, who retired last year, is among 23 recipients of the National Federation of State High School Association national Coach of the Year award.

Kauls, who attends Bethlehem Covenant Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was honored at an awards banquet in Montgomery, Alabama, as the Coach of the Year for his sport. During his 40-year career coaching boys and girls soccer at the Minneapolis-based school, he was 499-275-75 with a state runner-up finish in 1981.

A German teacher while at Minnehaha, Kauls is already in the Minnesota State High School Coaches Hall of Fame. He led the Redhawks to eight conference titles while recording the most victories in state boys soccer history. His son, Alex, is now coaching at Minnehaha Academy, which is sponsored by the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
