Retired Minnehaha Coach Named Coach of the Year
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (August 20, 2002) - Longtime Minnehaha Academy soccer coach
Guido Kauls, who retired last year, is among 23 recipients of the National
Federation of State High School Association national Coach of the Year
award.
Kauls, who attends Bethlehem Covenant Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was
honored at an awards banquet in Montgomery, Alabama, as the Coach of the
Year for his sport. During his 40-year career coaching boys and girls
soccer at the Minneapolis-based school, he was 499-275-75 with a state
runner-up finish in 1981.
A German teacher while at Minnehaha, Kauls is already in the Minnesota
State High School Coaches Hall of Fame. He led the Redhawks to eight
conference titles while recording the most victories in state boys soccer
history. His son, Alex, is now coaching at Minnehaha Academy, which is
sponsored by the Northwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church.
