NPU Volleyballer Earns Tournament Honors
LISLE, IL (September 3, 2002) - Junior setter Kristin Bortoli of Chicago earned
All-Tournament honors as North Park University (NPU) opened its women's
volleyball season with a 1-3 record at the Benedictine Invitational last
weekend.
The Vikings lost matches to St. Norbert College of Wisconsin and eventual
tourney champ Benedictine on Friday and lost to Carroll on Saturday before
beating Aurora University. The team opens its home schedule with a 7:30
p.m. match Thursday against Dominican University.
Bortoli, who attended Queen of Peace High School in Chicago, is one of two
upperclassmen on NPU's team - senior middle hitter Lauren Krueger is the
other. The Vikings have 10 freshmen on its roster of 15. Last year's team
was 15-23, 1-6 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, under
coach Susan Zimmer.
