Donna Erickson Receives Distinguished Alumni Award
CHICAGO, IL (September 4, 2002) - Donna Erickson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, has
been awarded North Park University's 2002 Distinguished Alumni Award.
Erickson, who graduated from North Park (then College) in 1971, is a
nationally recognized, award-winning parenting author, syndicated
columnist, television host and producer who specializes in creating
activities that are fun and meaningful for busy families.
Her books include the award-winning Prime Time Together . . . with Kids,
More Prime Time Activities with Kids and the new Fabulous Funstuff
for Families from Augsburg Fortress. She is also the host and executive
producer of Donna's Day that airs regionally on PBS and the
Hallmark Channel.
Donna's Day is a series committed to strengthening family ties,
creating traditions and building self-esteem through fun and easy projects
and recipes. She has won Gold
Parents Choice Awards for her books and for her television series.
Donna's Day was designated by the Associated Press as one of the top
10 televisions shows in the United States for 1999.
Erickson is a frequent guest on Today, CNN and Oprah, a
contributing editor to PARENTS magazine, a King Features weekly
columnist and is the host and creator of several home videos distributed by
Time-Life Video.
A graduate with a Bachelor of Arts from North Park in 1971, she went on to
earn a Master of Arts in second languages and cultures education from the
University of Minnesota. Currently living in Minneapolis, she has taught at
the elementary, secondary and college levels in the United States, Sweden
and Africa (Congo, Zambia). She is married to Dean Erickson, also a
graduate of North Park (class of 1971) and they have three children: Bjorn,
a recent North Park graduate; Britt, a current North Park student, and
Anders, a high school senior.
