Hilmar (CA) 100th Celebration Continues
HILMAR, CA (September 6, 2002) - Hilmar Covenant Church will continue its 100th
anniversary celebration with a centennial celebration Homecoming weekend
November 2-3.
A centennial banquet is scheduled for November 2 in the grand tent of Holy
Rosary Church in Hilmar with Hors d'oeuvres at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7
p.m. Tickets for the banquet are $40 and must be purchased by October 15.
On November 3, a centennial pageant is set for both the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
worship services. The history of the church's 100 years will be presented
through drama, music and multimedia.
On January 26-27, Hilmar Covenant began its centennial celebration as one
of its previous pastors, Jim Hawkinson, executive minister emeritus of the
Department of Communication of the Evangelical Covenant Church, was the
guest speaker for a
kickoff weekend. The church also performed a special Easter pageant in
March and will produce commemorative items for the 100th anniversary,
including a history book, decorative plate and coffee cup.
Hilmar Covenant Church is located in a central California community of
about 4,000 people, about 100 miles east of San Francisco. It has an
average worship attendance of 300. The congregation is celebrating its
centennial using the theme "Building for Christ: The Next 100 Years." As
part of the celebration, the church is contemplating a building project for
a new family center.
The church hopes to raise $3 million over a three-year period. During the
first 28 months, the congregation has raised more than $1.4 million toward
the goal. National Covenant Properties is participating in financing the
project. Construction will begin as soon as building permits are secured.
