October Dedication Set for Youth Ministries Center
CHICAGO, IL (September 10, 2002) - A dedication will be held in October for the
new Center for Youth Ministry Studies on the campus of North Park
University.
The dedication, one of many activities as part of the university's
Homecoming celebration, will take place at 4 p.m. Friday, October 11,
outside the center's office at 5047 North Spaulding Avenue in Chicago. The
center is located just south of the campus bridge on the same street as
Burgh Hall. The dedication will follow an open house from 3-5 p.m.
Participants in the dedication ceremony will include Mark Olson, North
Park's vice president for admissions, who will share the history of the
center's development, and Marti Burger, director of youth and family
ministries for the Department of Christian Formation of the Evangelical
Covenant Church, who will discuss the involvement of the new center in the
broader life of the Covenant and its youth ministries.
The center's goal is to develop men and women to effectively minister to
youth, their families, churches and communities. The center develops
educational programs to address a wide range of needs, including workshops
and seminars, undergraduate and graduate-level training and field
experience, which together serve the needs of students, the Evangelical
Covenant Church (ECC) and the church at large.
North Park University and the Department of Christian Formation are the
sponsoring institutions. Jim Dekker and Ginny Olson are the center's
co-directors, with Kara Hendrickson serving as the center's operations
coordinator.
