Vikings Drop Opener to U of C
CHICAGO, IL (September 17, 2002) - Despite a 51-yard touchdown run by quarterback
Phil DeWald, North Park University (NPU) lost its opening football game
33-9 at the University of Chicago last Saturday.
DeWald combined for 157 yards of total offense, but the home team scored 24
points in the second quarter to put the game away. Ryan Johnson's 45-yard
field goal accounted for the other points for NPU, which hosts Eureka
College at 1 p.m. Saturday. Jon Harris caught 10 passes for 98 yards for
North Park's offense while Scott Sousa had an interception on defense for
the Vikings.
In other action:
- The NPU men's soccer team tied Lakeland College 1-1 Saturday and beat
Marian College 1-0 on Sunday to raise its overall record to 4-1-1.
- The women's soccer team lost 3-1 to Lakeland and beat Marian 2-0 over
the weekend to move to 4-1 this fall.
- The Vikings women's volleyball team (2-6) lost matches to Illinois
Institute of Technology and St. Ambrose University Saturday.
