Loveland (CO) Church Marks 50 Years of Ministry
LOVELAND, CO (September 19, 2002) - LifeSpring Covenant Church in Loveland
celebrated 50 years of ministry last weekend.
Art Greco, director of prayer and evangelism for the Department of Church
Growth and Evangelism of the Evangelical Covenant Church, spoke at both the
Sunday
morning worship service and a Saturday banquet at the Evangelical Covenant
Church of Fort Collins. Midwest Conference Supt. Kenneth Carlson and
Associate Supt. Rick Mylander were among the special guests on Saturday and
Sunday.
Among the 220 who attended Saturday's banquet were two members of the
church's initial core group, Lona Sargent and Leona Earle, as well as some
of the congregation's previous pastors. The event included a video
documenting the history of the congregation and special music from a church
quartet.
LifeSpring Covenant Church, originally known as Loveland Covenant Church,
had its first worship service January 27, 1952, under pastor Joseph Broman,
who served at the Swedish National Sanatorium of Denver. Bertil Lovain took
over as pastor soon after. The church had a membership of 32 and worshiped
at a local community center in a town of 8,000.
Currently, the church has an average worship attendance of more than 450 in
Loveland, a city of 50,000 located 60 miles north of Denver. The interim
pastor at the church is Wendell Grout.
