Palestinian Christian Leader to Speak at NPU

CHICAGO, IL (September 26, 2002) - Palestinian Christian leader and Catholic priest Father Elias Chacour will speak at North Park University (NPU) at 7:30 p.m. Monday in a free lecture at Anderson Chapel.

The event is sponsored by North Park's Center for Middle Eastern Studies and the Institute for International and Cultural Studies. It is part of a one-year curriculum emphasis through various presentations in answering the question: Who is God?

Chacour, who teaches at Prophet Elias College in Ibillin (part of Galilee), Israel, will present, "Who is the God of Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar?" He has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and was the 1994 recipient of the World Methodist Council Peace Award, awarded previously to such political leaders Anwar Sadat, Nelson Mandela and Jimmy Carter.
