Augustana Defeats Vikings in Football Action
CHICAGO, IL (October 21, 2002) - Kyle Zick scored twice and ran for 94 yards on
nine carries as Augustana College defeated North Park University (NPU) 58-8
Saturday in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin
(CCIW) football game at Hedstrand Field.
North Park fell to 1-5, 0-3 in the CCIW as Jon Harris' 37-yard touchdown
reception of a Phil DeWald was the lone offensive highlight. Augustana
moved to 4-1 and remained tied Wheaton College for the CCIW lead with a
3-0 record. NPU travels to Elmhurst College for a 1 p.m. CCIW game
Saturday.
In other sports:
- Both soccer teams played at NPU Saturday, with the men's soccer team
tying Centre College of Kentucky 0-0 behind goalie Matt Evans' eighth
shutout. Earlier in the day, the women's team fell to 8-7, 1-6 in the
CCIW, by losing 1-0 to Elmhurst. The women's team hosts Manchester College
of Indiana at 3 p.m. Tuesday while the 8-5-2 men's team hosts Benedictine
College at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
- In Saturday's Drews/Neubauer cross country invitational at LaCrosse,
Wisconsin, North Park was 22nd in the women's race and the men placed 25th.
Chris Gruenewald was 138th in the race to lead the men
individually and Grace Conrad was 97th of 318 runners to pace the Vikings
in the women's race.
- At last weekend's CCIW women's tennis meet in Bloomington, North Park
placed eighth as a team as Kristin Jorna, Laura Dahl, Natalie Keefe, Erica
Palmer, Maria Black and Cary McKee represented the Vikings.
- In CCIW volleyball action in Rock Island, the Vikings lost a three-game
match Friday night at Augustana to fall to 8-15 overall, 0-6 in conference.
Results of NPU's performance at the Augustana Scramble tourney on Saturday
were unavailable at press time. The Vikings host Millikin University in a
CCIW match at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
