Indiana Youth Pastor to Receive Investment Award
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (November 14, 2002) - Donovan DeGaetano of Evangelical Covenant
Church of Portage is one of 10 recipients of the Youth Investment Awards
being given Tuesday by the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI), a youth
organization located in Indianapolis.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will be giving awards and
speaking at the luncheon, which culminates the Kids Count in Indiana
Conference at the Indiana Convention Center. The monetary award is $2,500,
which includes $500 in monies for DeGaetano's youth development training.
The mother of a student in his youth group nominated DeGaetano for the
award. DeGaetano works full-time as an apprentice at National Steel in
Portage and serves part-time in youth ministry at the church. Among other
things, he helped start the Curbside Café, a youth center for local teens
that is open during weekday afternoons. DeGaetano has been involved in
youth ministry at the church for more than a decade, said his wife, Jill.
The Indiana Youth Institute was founded in 1988. The IYI specializes in
research, training and resource services in the youth development field by
"serving the institutions and people of Indiana who work on their behalf."
The Youth Investment Awards were instituted in 1994 with the support of the
Annie E. Casey Foundation.
