Bellevue (WA) Service Thursday for William Peterson

BELLEVUE, WA (January 14, 2003) - A Seattle-area memorial service will be conducted Thursday to celebrate the life of William L. Peterson, Jr., who died January 10 at his home in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The service will begin at 3 p.m. at Newport Covenant Church, 12800 SE Coal Creek Parkway in Bellevue. Peterson served as an intern at First Covenant Church-Seattle in the 1950's and was a central part of developing the core group that planted the congregation now known as Newport Covenant Church, according to Newport senior pastor Howard Burgoyne.

A memorial service was scheduled for seven o'clock this evening at First Covenant Church in St. Paul (see related story elsewhere in the Covenant news report).

Peterson was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania. He attended North Park Junior College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Northern Illinois University. He graduated from North Park Theological Seminary and Bethany Theological Seminary. He also studied at Yale Divinity School and Princeton Theological Seminary.

He was ordained in the Evangelical Covenant Church in 1956. He served pastorates at First Covenant in Seattle, Washington; Lily Lake Covenant in Elgin, Illinois; Evangelical Covenant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Bethany Covenant in New Britain, Connecticut; and Northwest Covenant in Mount Prospect, Illinois, before serving at First Covenant in St. Paul until 1995.
