Funeral Service Held for Harriet Amundsen
SOLDOTNA, AK (January 16, 2003) - A funeral service was held Tuesday at the
Soldotna Bible Chapel in Soldotna for Harriet Amundsen, who passed away
last Friday at Heritage Place in Soldotna.
Born May 22, 1916, in Missoula, Montana, the 86-year-old Amundsen was the
wife of longtime missionary Hans Roald Amundsen, who served the Evangelical
Covenant Church (ECC) in Alaska for many years after being called by the
Department of World Mission in 1945. After many years in Nome, the family
moved to Soldotna in 1964 and began Missionary Aviation and Repair Center,
a key transportation ministry for Alaska.
While her husband ran most of the operations for Missionary Aviation,
Harriett worked as a secretary for two local schools. Harriett had
graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a teaching degree before she
and her husband began ministry in Alaska.
Harriett is survived by her husband of 58 years, Hans Roald Amundsen;
daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Gary Klodt; son and daughter-in-law,
John and Susan Amundsen; son Tim Amundsen; and grandchildren Amber and Hans
(and wife Misty) and great-granddaughter, Krysta, all of Alaska. She is
also survived by sister Eleanore Bloom of Turlock, California.
Memorial donations may be sent to Missionary Aviation and Repair Center,
P.O. Box 511, Soldotna, AK, 99669, or the Amundsen Education Center, P.O.
