Reserve a Place at KICY Dinner February 8
WILMETTE, IL (January 23, 2003) - Winnetka Covenant Church is hosting a salmon
dinner at 6 p.m. on February 8 to celebrate the work of Covenant-sponsored
KICY radio station.
Dennis Weidler, KICY general manager, will give a presentation about the
Nome, Alaska-based radio station (which has both AM and FM bands). A
freewill offering will be received to support KICY's ministry.
KICY, as operated by Arctic Broadcasting Association, is an affiliated
corporation of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC). From hundreds of
miles away, the radio station's programming reaches listeners (both English
and Russian) in both western Alaska and the Russian Far East. Staffers
recently found a way to go the extra mile for its listeners.
The staff hosted a Listener Appreciation Spaghetti Dinner for the entire
village of Gambell (population 650), which is located 180 miles west of
Nome on Saint Lawrence Island in the Bering Sea. The serving team even
airlifted all of the sauce, meat, bread, cheese, plates, cups, napkins and
plastic ware to Gambell. The team was allowed to use a school cafeteria in
Gambell to prepare the meal and the goodwill seemed to warm the town,
despite the cold weather (60 below zero wind chill factor).
To reserve a place for the February 8 salmon dinner at Winnetka Covenant,
call 773-907-3354 by February 1. To find out more about KICY, visit the
radio station's web site at www.kicy.org.
