Vikings Do Not Fare Well at Augustana
ROCK ISLAND, IL (January 26, 2003) - The North Park University (NPU) men's and
women's basketball teams both lost games at Augustana College Saturday as
Augustana's men outscored NPU 50-26 in the second half to win 88-65
Saturday night in the second game of the day played at the Carver P.E.
Center.
Irving Richardson scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half as NPU took
a 39-38 lead. But the home team dominated thereafter, out-rebounding NPU
42-19 overall as Brad Clements grabbed 11 rebounds while compiling 17
points. Drew Carstens of Augustana led all scorers with 21 points.
North Park's men (10-6, 0-5 in the College Conference of Illinois and
Wisconsin) will host Carthage College at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Earlier on Saturday, the NPU women's basketball team lost a 78-71 close
contest at Augustana despite a season-high 19 points by NPU's Amy Stoltz.
The women's team (6-10, 1-5) also got a strong performance from Redina
Hall, who had 14 points.
Two nights earlier, North Park won a 77-75 triple overtime thriller over
Milwaukee School of Engineering as Shandrel Young scored 26 points,
including the winning basket with 40 seconds remaining. Young had extended
the game moments earlier with a 3-point field goal with one second
remaining during the second overtime.
Carrie Swenson grabbed 17 rebounds to g
o with nine points and Megan Slattery added nine rebounds to go with 12
points for the Vikings, who will host Wheaton College in a CCIW game at
7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
