Memorial Service Held for Elsie Tamte
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (February 12, 2003) - A memorial service was held January 29 at
Bloomington Covenant Church for Elsie Tamte, widow of longtime Covenant
pastor Arnold Tamte, who died January 25 in Minneapolis.
Tamte was 90 years old at the time of her death. Gregory Fondell and Fran
Decker officiated at the memorial service.
Born June 23, 1912, in Lulea (Karlsvik), Sweden, Tamte came to the United
States at age five and grew up in Big Falls, Minnesota, where her father
was a logger. In 1935 she married a young pastor, Arnold Tamte, and
together they served parishes in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin for more
than 40 years.
Tamte is survived by son, Roger, and his wife, Gloria; son, Bruce, and his
wife, Beverly; daughter, Carol Skanse, and her husband, Douglas; daughter,
Deborah, and husband, Michael Tamte-Horan; 20 grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren.
