Nancy Almquist to Appear in Concert March 23
CHICAGO, IL (March 7, 2003) - Soprano Nancy Almquist will present a sacred
concert at North Park Covenant Church at 7 p.m. on March 23.
The concert will feature John Carter's Cantata, a tour-de-force
setting of four spirituals for voice and piano. The program will be
assisted by soprano Carol Marshall and accompanied by pianist Sharon
Peterson.
Almquist is the daughter-in-law of Arden and JoAnn Almquist, former
Covenant missionaries to Congo. She previously served as a short-term
missionary to Congo.
She has performed opera, oratorio, chamber music and has appeared in
recital throughout the greater Washington DC metropolitan area for more
than 15 years. She is a graduate of North Park University (then College)
and Indiana University. As soloist she has appeared with the Maryland
Choral Society, the New Century Singers, the Washington Bach Consort, the
Folger Consort and the Cathedral Choral Society, as well as the Annapolis
Opera. As recitalist she has traveled across the country singing programs
of American opera and sacred repertoire. She was a fellow in composer Alice
Parker's Spring in the Berkshires residency program for singers, choral
conductors and composers in the Spring of 2000. Almquist serves as the
director of music at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Silver
Spring, Maryland, and maintains a private voice studio in her home.
Tickets are $8 general admission, $6 for seniors and students. Children
under the age of eight will be admitted free. A reception will follow the
concert.
