Vikings Successful in Spring Break Softball Series
FORT MEYERS, FL (March 18, 2003) - The North Park University (NPU) softball team
finished a nine-game spring break trip with a 3-6 record as Stacey
Salihovich batted .333 and Kim Walker earned two pitching victories and a
save.
The Vikings opened with four losses, but rallied to take three straight as
Walker tossed a four-hit 1-0 shutout over Emmanuel College and beat
Wesleyan College 7-3 with another four-hitter. Walker was 2-3 with a 2.84
earned run average for the trip, striking out 18 and walking just three in
31 and two-thirds innings.
In a 5-3 win over Merchant Marine, Laura Lacefield picked up the pitching
victory and Walker earned a save by getting the last out of the game. Run
scoring singles by Pam Carlson and Amy Stieve in the fifth inning brought
home the winning runs.
The NPU baseball team was less successful on its spring trip in Texas and
Arkansas, going 1-9 overall. Nick Zayas, Kevin Carroll and Dion Rubino were
offensive bright spots, however. Zayas hit .438 and Carroll and Rubino each
batted .400 for the trip.
