Some Covenant Churches Part of Youth Ministry Study
CHICAGO, IL (March 28, 2003) - Evangelical Covenant Church youth ministry
programs are
thriving throughout North America and a number of churches have been asked
to participate in a three-year, seven-denomination study documenting how
quality
youth ministry is being done.
The Exemplary Youth Ministry Study is highlighting 325 congregations that
have been identified for their work in youth ministry. A total of 60
Covenant churches have agreed to be part of phase two of the study. Other
denominations included in the study are the Assemblies of God, Catholic,
Lutheran, Presbyterian Church (USA), Southern Baptist and United Methodist.
Every conference in the Covenant has at least one representative among the
60 congregations included in phase two of the study - the Northwest (18)
and Pacific Southwest (11) conferences have the most representation.
Selected Covenant churches (ones with at least one full-time youth minister
or director) are as varied as the conferences they represent.
The Covenant's largest church, Life Church of Edmond, Oklahoma, is among
those chosen for the study, as is a congregation with around 100 in average
worship attendance, Lund Mission Covenant Church in Stockholm, Wisconsin.
Churches in large urban areas such as Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle and San
Francisco are part of phase two, while Salem Covenant Church in Oakland,
Nebraska, and the Evangelical Covenant Church of Roseau, Minnesota, are
examples of churches representing communities with fewer than 3,000
inhabitants.
Following a quantitative survey, 30 congregations (including five from the
Covenant) will be selected to participate in an in-depth qualitative
