Heavy Snow Damages Covenant Heights Camp
ESTES PARK, CO (March 28, 2003) - Covenant Heights Conference Center has suffered
considerable building damage as the result of an estimated five feet of new
snow in Colorado.
"This has been a week of real challenge for us," camp Executive Director
Tom Cousineau states in a recent email." We really got hammered by this
storm. We tried to keep up on the snow plowing, but the load finally
overtook our old tired plow truck and the engine blew out. We did manage to
clear the area of snow at the end of the storm with a
borrowed backhoe and hired a local excavating firm to work with a large
front-end loader.
"We received roof damage to at least four buildings - winter and autumn
lodges had partial roof damage." Cousineau continued. "It will take some
repair, but will not slow down our guest use . . . the worst damage was to
one of our staff cabins. The front wall buckled out and is unsafe to enter
for fear of collapse. We have the building braced and the staff relocated."
Students from Covenant Bible College-Midwest in Windsor helped remove snow
from the roofs of buildings at Covenant Heights, but more snow was expected
later in the week and Cousineau asked for prayer on several levels,
including staff perseverance in clearing snow, snow removal equipment and
the finances to pay for repairs and any short-term snow removal that will
allow the camp to continue its programming.
