North Park Senior Wins Illinois Essay Contest
CHICAGO, IL (April 2, 2003) - North Park University (NPU) senior Erica Anderson
of Sammamish, Washington, and Pine Lake Covenant Church, was one of four
winners of an essay contest sponsored by the Associated Colleges of
Illinois (ACI).
Anderson's essay was among those written by students from ACI institutions
throughout Illinois. She received her award during one of the recent ACI
annual meeting sessions in Chicago.
A senior elementary education and English major at NPU, Anderson will
receive a $2,500 scholarship to be credited toward her senior year tuition
at North Park. Her essay will be published in the ACI's 51st annual meeting
commemorative program.
Anderson has been a busy student at North Park. Along with her academic
achievements, she has been involved in volunteer work through Urban
Outreach, serving as youth and child team coordinator and also service
learning coordinator.
In November, Anderson was awarded the Student Laureate Medallion by the
Lincoln Academy of Illinois for overall excellence during her college
career. The Laureate Medallion was presented to Anderson by then-Gov. and
Mrs. George H. Ryan during a special ceremony at the Old State Capitol in
Springfield.
Focused on the theme "Teachers Lead, Leaders Teach," ACI's 2003 Liberal
Arts for Leadership Essay Contest challenged students majoring in education
to express why teaching is a leadership profession and how their liberal
arts education prepared them to be leaders in
the classroom.
